PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Michael R. Nifong, chief, Geospatial Intelligence Division, G2, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command, retired during a ceremony Aug. 31 at the command's operational headquarters here.

During the ceremony Nifong, a native of Clemmons, North Carolina, received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, a three-star note from SMDC's commanding general, a one-star note from SMDC's deputy commanding general for operations, and a certificate of retirement and pin.

Nifong retires with 40 years of military and civilian service.
