STUTTGART, Germany (Aug. 18, 2015) -- At U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach's May town hall, community members were briefed about the future of Army and Air Force Exchange Service facilities within the garrison's footprint as a result of the recent Aviation Restructuring Initiative announcement.

Chris Holifield, the general manager for the U.S. European Command Consolidated Exchange, which includes Ansbach, said that all AAFES facilities were to consolidate services to the Urlas shopping complex.

Since the town hall, Exchange officials have re-evaluated their decision, and as a result there are changes to their original announcement.

ADJUSTMENTS

The closure of the Illesheim Express and gas station at Storck Barracks is delayed until January 2016. Officials will review sales trends at that time to determine if it is cost effective to keep it open.

Katterbach Kaserne's Express Shoppette and Bismarck Kaserne's movie theater will also remain open, and patronage will be reviewed monthly.

The New Car Sales at Storck is set to close later this year, and the Subway restaurants at Storck and Katterbach will remain open pending a six-month trial of business performance. The Döner stand at Katterbach will stay in operation as well.

NO CHANGE

Burger King at Katterbach and Anthony's Pizza at Storck are still scheduled to close Oct. 1. The gas station at Bismarck will also close Oct. 1, but the Car Care Center will remain open.

The barber shops at Storck and Katterbach, along with the laundromat at Katterbach, will all remain open.

NEW HOURS

After an analysis of usage trends, AAFES has decided to revise operating hours for eight of its Ansbach facilities due to reduced patronage as a result of the declining population of the surrounding military community. This change is scheduled to go into effect Aug. 24.

This includes a reduction of hours to the Urlas Main PX, which will close one hour earlier on weekdays and two hours earlier Saturdays. All Urlas Food Court vendors will also reduce hours, along with the Urlas gas station, the Katterbach Car Center and Burger King. For a line-by-line list of hours, see the accompanying graphic.
