Aberdeen Proving Ground and its surrounding community organized an "Our Community Salutes" event in conjunction with Armed Forces week celebration in May. The event recognized 67 future Service members and their parents. These high school graduates will serve in many branches of the Armed Forces and all service components of the Army, including the Army Reserve and National Guard.

During the ceremony, each future Service member received a personalized two-star note signed by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Bruce T. Crawford, along with personalized identification tags. Parents received a framed Certificate of Appreciation.

Elected state officials, mayors and city leaders joined Armed Forces recruiters and proud parents in recognizing the future Service members.

The event included a military display of vehicles, weapon systems, robots, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives/Explosive Ordnance Disposal protective suits, intended to be put on and touched.

"To my knowledge, this is the first time this type of event has been conducted in Maryland and I would have to say for me was a highlight of our annual Armed Forces Week," said CECOM Command Sgt. Maj. William G. Bruns, "So many times across this great country we stop and recognize High School Students that have been accepted into college. Our Aberdeen Proving Ground communities chose to take an additional step and highlight 67 High School Students that want to join our ranks and protect the United States of America. This is a great time to be part of the APG Team."
