MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU AIR BASE, Romania (May 14, 2015) -- Soldiers, of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment's 2nd Squadron, began Operation Cavalry March, a 400-kilometer movement across Romania that involved nearly 100 combat vehicles and more than 300 Soldiers, May 12.

Cavalry March is a demonstration of NATO's ability to move freely within the alliance, and is a part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

The movement culminated with a community outreach event in the city of Ploiesti, Romania, May 13, when Soldiers interacted with the community and allowed the residents to see the equipment to include the Stryker combat vehicle and Apache attack helicopter. Nearly 2,000 people attended the event.

In light of Russia's illegal actions in Ukraine, Operation Atlantic Resolve is a visible demonstration of U.S. commitment to the security of NATO allies. In meeting global security commitments, the United States must have strong, committed and capable allies, which is why it has fought, exercised and trained with its European allies for the past 70 years. The U.S.-European strategic partnership is built on a foundation of shared values, experiences and interests in a Europe, which is stable and prosperous.
