FORT ALLEN, PUERTO RICO- Twenty four soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto graduated from the Warrior Leaders Course (WLC), at the Regional Training Institute, May 1, in what represents the bedrock of their military careers.
Among the members of the largest U.S. Army command in the Caribbean, five were recognized for their academic and leadership achievements during the course.
Spec. Alnuel Sanchez, from the 613th Military Police Company, U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, was recognized as the class' Distinguished Honor Graduate with an academic grade point average of 96.17 percent.
"I am happy. This is a very professional school. It has been an honor to complete my WLC here," said Sanchez after being publicly recognized with an Army Achievement Medal and a special token of accomplishment from the school staff.
Sgt. Maj. Soraya Suarez-Garcia, Noncommissioned Officer Education System Commandant from the Regional Training Institute, praised Sanchez' abilities to lead.
"He shared his experiences with other students and provided meaningful guidance and a mentorship to his peers during the course," said Suarez-Garcia.
Command Sgt. Maj. Harry Muñoz, senior enlisted member of the 1st Mission Support Command, U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, also had words of appreciation to the group of recent graduates.
"This is your first leadership course. Now I encourage each and every one of you to start working on the requirements to attend the Advanced Leaders Course. Out of all the students, the top five recognitions were attained by troops from our command. I am very proud," said Muñoz.
Besides the Distinguished Honor Graduate, the following troops from the 1st MSC were also recognized as members of the commandant list:
Spec. Erwin Medina from the 613th Military Police Company achieved an academic grade point average of 95.81 percent. Spec. Christian Rivera, from the 613th Military Police Company, achieved an academic grade point average of 94.38 percent. Spec. Erick Rodriguez, from the 941st Quartermaster Company, also received a Leadership Award and achieved an academic grade point average of 93.97 percent. Spec. Isaac Toyos, from the 941st Quartermaster Company achieved an academic grade point average of 93.96 percent.
WLC, formerly the Primary Leadership Development Course, is the first course of study in the U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer Education System. WLC is a month-long course that trains Specialists, Corporals, and Sergeants in the fundamentals of leadership. The course curriculum includes instruction in Leadership Skills, Training Skills and Warfighting Skills.
