DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command and Senior Mission Commander, Rock Island Arsenal, visited the Rotary Club of Davenport, April 20, to speak about the commands on the island and answer questions.

Topics covered in O'Connell's presentation were titled: The world today; the Army today; U.S. Army Materiel Command at a glance; ASC at a glance; ASC priorities; the Logistic Civil Augmentation Program; and how the different organizations on the island work together.

O'Connell emphasized ASC's importance to the global Army mission, noting the Army Operating Concept: "Win in a complex world."

ASC has about 44,000 people in 32 states and 19 countries and offers logistics support to six major combatant commands: U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. European Command, U.S. Central Command, U.S. Africa Command, U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Northern Command.

He also pointed out that ASC is not the only organization on the arsenal with global impact, citing the missions of U.S. Joint Munitions Command, U.S. Army Contracting Command -- Rock Island and the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center.
