The Center of the Universe, otherwise known as Fort Bragg, North Carolina, sits quietly off a highway in Fayetteville. How does the Home of the Airborne and Special Operations give back to the community: by helping to keep Fayetteville Beautiful!

The Fort Bragg Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) teamed up with the Fayetteville Beautiful project to beautify a section of downtown Fayetteville and the All-American Freeway in preparation for the All-American Marathon, Mike-to-Mike Half Marathon, 3K Run and Walk, March 21 2015.

This mission of Fayetteville Beautiful is to encourage others to take greater responsibility for maintaining a cleaner and more beautiful city.

Both organizations are committed to excellence," said retired Maj. Gen. Rodney Anderson, former deputy commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. "Fayetteville Beautiful is committed to making Fayetteville a more beautiful place to live while SAMC is committed to professionalism and fostering relations with our community."

SAMC is known not only for its commitment to the community, but for the professionalism and expertise of its members.

"SAMC is a prestigious organization for the top noncommissioned officers in the United States Army," said Staff Sgt. Antonio L Buckley, president, Fort Bragg Chapter of SAMC. "SAMC is a great organization, but as NCOs, we are supposed to take care of our Soldiers. In this case, we are taking care of our community."

Throughout Fayetteville, SAMC is constantly called upon to highlight the best of the best in the NCO Corps.

"As an organization, we volunteer at many events," said Buckley. "We are at Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps events, we feed the homeless and provide meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas."

The various events that SAMC and Fort Bragg volunteer at help strengthen the bond between Fort Bragg and Fayetteville.

"Fort Bragg and Fayetteville are one community," said Anderson. "We work together, live together, and entertain together."

The volunteers for Keep Fayetteville Beautiful came from the 82nd Airborne Division, 16th Military Police Brigade, and even the senior enlisted for XVIII Airborne Corps.

"I think this is great opportunity for Soldiers as well as family members to come together and give back to the community," said Command Sgt. Maj. Isaia Vimoto, command sgt. maj., XVIII Airborne Corps. "We fight the fight, but we are also here to help our community."

This event is one of many ways that SAMC continues to contribute to the community.

"That is what SAMC is all about," said Buckley.
