FORT KNOX, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2014) --- Sgt. 1st Class Raymundo Soto, an All Source Intelligence Analyst senior instructor assigned to 6th Military Intelligence Battalion/95th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 100th Training Division, beat out seven other competitors to win the 80th Training Command (TASS) Instructor of the Year Competition here Oct. 20 and 21.

The aim of the competition is to identify and recognize the best instructors from across the 80th TC.

"No matter if it's during a briefing or on deployment, we need to always give it our all; we owe it to our Soldiers to lead from the front." said Soto, who taught his class on resilience.

"I think it takes the right instructor to give the right briefing, and since I really believe in resilience I believed that I would do well in this competition," added Soto, the 6th MI BN Mater Resiliency Trainer.

As a civilian, Soto is a senior compliance officer with an international financial institution. He says, the investigative and intelligence analysis skills he acquired as a Reserve Soldier benefits him in his civilian capacity.

"It's kinda hand in hand with what I do in the military," Soto said. "My background in intelligence did help me get the position."

A panel of four sergeants major and a sergeant first class from across the 80th TC judged the competitors on their communication skills, technical and tactical knowledge, appearance and military bearing. Judges also give consideration to training contribution, training-literature development and article publication research.

Staff Sgt. Vincent Lai, a MI instructor assigned to 6th MI BN/98th Regt., 1st Bde, 100th TD, finished second in the competition. He said the event was an opportunity interacts with fellow instructors from across the command to discuss different teaching styles.

"We exchange experiences and best practices…we can use in the classroom," Lai said.

Soto will now compete at the U.S. Army Reserve Command level and hopefully advance to the U.S. Army Training Doctrine Command competition.
