This year's Army Materiel Command's Best Warrior Competition will be one of the most challenging competitions that these Soldiers have seen to date. The rigors of the competition will test their physical endurance and mental resiliency. They are the best Soldiers that each command has to offer and this competition will determine who embodies the Best Warrior. The winners of the AMC Best Warrior Competition will be well prepared to represent the command at the Department of the Army competition this fall.

When Soldiers deploy they are expected to be prepared for the unknown, to operate a little longer with less rest, to be comfortable in ambiguous situations. This year's competition has been designed to create less than ideal conditions for the competitors to operate in. The Soldiers will be expected to demonstrate competence by making accurate decisions in tough, stressful, and realistic situations. In order to create this environment we have shortened the competition and run each of the events consecutively. Just as in combat, the competitors are expected to arrive prepared to engage and win, regardless of the conditions on the ground. By shortening the competition we not only accomplish our goal of creating a realistic scenario, but our responsibility to keep the costs of the competition at a minimum.

What is not often talked about is the amount of effort that goes into preparing a first class event like this one. There are many Soldiers and civilians that have come together to develop the agenda, secure the resources, and facilitate the competition. They too are true professionals and have worked long hours in order for this to be the best competition we can make it. They are well aware that the competitors deserve the best competition available. Their enthusiasm, devotion and commitment to excellence guarantees that regardless of the outcome, each Soldier will leave the competition more resilient and better prepared to face future challenges.
