LIVORNO, Italy -- Lt. Col. Joseph Greenlee was handed the Army Field Support Battalion--Italy reins from Lt. Col. Mark Gray, during a change of command ceremony held here June 27.

Col. Christopher Roscoe, commander, 405th Army Field Support Brigade, presided over the ceremony.

"For my family and I to return to Livorno again is at once a special personal pleasure and also an honor to participate in the Army Field Support Battalion-Italy change of command. It's great to be back in Livorno, Italy," said Roscoe. "As the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi once said, 'You may have the universe, if I may have Italy.' It is great to be back."

"Lt. Col. Joe Greenlee comes to us from Washington, D.C., but is no stranger to the logistics world, but commanding the AFSB-Italy will definitely be a different perspective for him and one Joe is extremely qualified for," said Roscoe.

Gray, the outgoing commander, attributed the success of the AFSBn-Italy to the people who worked under his leadership. He reflected back on the partnership that helped shape the European Logistics, but also the strategic security environment. Gray thanked the Italian workforce, Department of the Army civilians, and the Soldiers and Family members for their unwavering support during the last two years. Gray will now join the 21st Theater Sustainment Command Support Operations team.

Greenlee, the incoming commander, has served more than 18 years in the U.S. Army. He previously served as the executive officer for the U.S. Army deputy chief of staff for programming.

"I am proud to be joining the AFSBn-Italy command team. I hope to make the organization proud. I look forward to working with the 21st [Theater Sustainment Command], [U.S. Army Europe] and the U.S. Army Africa Command, and I think it's going to be a great term," said Greenlee.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan Kroontje, [405th AFSB command sergeant major] and I know that you are the absolute right Soldier to take this command to the future, to build on its past successes and take it to new heights," said Roscoe.
