CAMP ZAMA, Japan -- Sixteen service members of the U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force were inducted into the noncommissioned officer corps during a formal bilateral ceremony held here Feb. 27. The 16 service members, 14 American and two Japanese, are the latest members from the Camp Zama community to become leaders and professionals as NCOs. Guest speaker for the ceremony was Command Sgt. Maj. J. Antez Gilbert, U.S. Army Garrison-Torii Station, Japan. Also attending to welcome these new NCOs were Maj. Gen. James Boozer Sr., commander of U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward); Command Sgt. Maj. Steven Payton, command sgt. Major of USARJ & I Corps (Forward); and Warrant Officer Kazuya Kurahashi, command sgt. major for the 4th Engineer Group, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force collocated on Camp Zama.
