FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Maj. Gen. Michael H. Shields, U.S. Army Alaska commanding general, joined by a group of children, pulled the switch that turned on the lights on the post Christmas tree, signifying the official start of the holiday season during the Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony at the Physical Fitness Center Dec. 4.

Soldiers and families attending the party enjoyed ice skating, music from the 9th Army "Arctic Warrior" Band, games, crafts and visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
