7 October 2013 marked another important day for the Civilian Workforce at Fort AP Hill as they returned to work following 6 day furlough period resulting from the government shutdown last week. Due to a lapse in appropriations, over 50% of the Department of the Army Civilian Workforce at AP Hill were furloughed. While the installation remained open, a number of key programs and services were either stopped entirely or severely curtailed during the shutdown period. A government breakthrough was achieved late Sunday afternoon enabling a return of the workforce to AP Hill and the resumption of normal operations. Over the course of the next 24 hours, the Garrison will reestablish priorities and schedules to ensure the most efficient return to steady state. We remain incredibly proud of the entire workforce for their incredible resilience during this challenging period. The displayed professionalism of our employees ensured the continuity of operations under limiting conditions and will also enable us to resume full operational capacity in the most timely and efficient manner possible.
