SCHWEINFURT, Germany (April 4, 2013) -- The garrison here hosts an immigrant visa workshop April 19 at the Yellow Ribbon Room and a passport outreach day April 29 in the passport section at Bldg. 40 at Conn Barracks.

If you married a non-American citizen and plan on going back the U.S., that person will need an immigrant visa before he or she can legally enter the States.

"This is a very complex process which takes a minimum of six months and includes lengthy paperwork, proof that your relationship is legitimate and trips to the Frankfurt U.S. consulate," said Barb Barnett, a relocation specialist at Schweinfurt's Army Community Service office.

To help the community's international spouses, ACS hosts a visa workshop April 19 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Yellow Ribbon Room on Ledward Barracks. For more information, or to register, call DSN 354-6933, CIV 09721-96-6933.

In related news, the U.S. Consulate out of Frankfurt will be in Schweinfurt April 29 in an outreach effort to assist Soldiers and families in consular services such as processing passports.

A team from the passport section will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Conn Barracks, Bldg. 40. The team will accept and process U.S. tourist passports for all American ID cardholders.

Only U.S. money orders will be accepted. Money orders are available at both post offices at Conn and Ledward Barracks. Cash, credit cards and personal checks will not be accepted.

Parents are reminded that newborns must have a passport prior to leaving the country.

Passport photos can be taken at the Training Support Center's photo and graphics studio at Conn Barracks, Bldg. 73.
