Tax Centers

Katterbach Tax Center, located on the third floor of the ACS building, is open now. The Tax Center at Storck is open now with regular hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-in customers will be accepted; however, it is recommended to make an appointment to avoid unnecessary waiting time. Bicycle rodeo

Children can bring out their bicycles for U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach's second annual Garrison Bicycle Rodeo from noon to 4 p.m. April 5 at Illesheim Elementary and April 12 at Katterbach Elementary. The bicycle rodeo gives children 6 to 12 years old a chance to showcase their bikes while learning vital tools to ride them safely. Children 6 to 8 years old have a chance to win a bicycle donated by AAFES. The Red Cross will be there to show parents how to properly render first aid to children in case of injury. There will also be helmet and bicycle inspections, bicycle rules and regulations for German and on-post roads, and an ADAC-sponsored obstacle course for children to test their riding skills. Storck focus groups

Storck Recreation Center at the Storck Community Activity Center will hold focus groups April 5 and May 3 from noon to 1 p.m. to get ideas from its clients and give them the experiences they want. Map custodian training

Training Support Center Ansbach will conduct map custodian training on how to establish a map account April 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Illesheim Digital Training Facility, Bldg. 6541 at Storck Barracks. By the end of the training, all map custodians will have the information they need to establish a map account and order maps for their unit.

Spring clean-up

Every year, the U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach conducts a spring clean-up to recover from winter, prepare for upcoming outdoor activities associated with spring and enhance the cleanliness and appearance of our living and work areas. This year's spring clean-up takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22 through 25 with each day dedicated to a different portion of the garrison. Units clean their areas of responsibility April 22; single Soldiers clean their living quarters April 23; Family housing cleaning occurs April 24; bulk pick-up occurs April 24; and professional work areas and windshield tours happen April 25. Sidewalk Saturdays

Ansbach Spouses and Civilians Club Thrift Shop at Katterbach Kaserne will begin doing Sidewalk Saturdays this Saturday and every first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are looking for a new venue to vend your wares, visit the Thrift Store's Facebook page or email asccthriftshop@yahoo.com.

ISCC Bingo Bash

The Illesheim Spouses and Civilians Club hosts a Bingo Bash April 18 at 6 p.m. at the Longbow Lounge at Storck Barracks. The cost to play 10 bingo games will be $10 for members or $15 for non-members. ISCC will also offer food in a combo meal, which will consist of one slice of pizza and a drink for $2. Some of the prizes include 10 different themed baskets valued at $50 or more and three raffle prizes of gift cards from local restaurants.

Ansbach clean-up

The Ansbach city-wide clean-up is April 13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach community members interested in pitching in can meet at the Bismarck Kaserne gate parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Clean-up areas will be off-post and include around Katterbach, Shipton, Urlas, Barton and Bleidorn. Play reading group

Terrace Playhouse at Bleidorn Kaserne holds a play reading group from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoons. No experience is necessary and guests may bring snacks to share. The group will read Enchanted April adapted by Matthew Barber April 21 and Pride and Prejudice adapted by Helen Jerome May 19.

Automotive grand opening

Outdoor Recreation hosts dog obedience classes at Urlas Paintball Field Tuesdays from April 30 to May 28 for $69. CLOSURES AND CHANGES

B14 Resurfacing

Resurfacing of the road that is currently in progress on B14 near the entrance to Urlas Housing and Shipton Kaserne will continue but will move toward the city of Ansbach. Because of this, temporary modifications to normal traffic patterns will take place. Drivers travelling from the city of Ansbach to Shipton or Urlas will be guided through a detour (or Umleitung) that will lead to the Kaufland shopping complex and the Windmill (Windmüle) hotel. Drivers traveling from Urlas or Shipton to Katterbach will be detoured through the village of Obereichenbach. Detour signs will be easy to see. There is no date yet as to when the resurfacing of the road will be complete; plan accordingly when traveling to Urlas or Shipton.

SPORTS, HEALTH AND FITNESS

Golf team

The U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach Community Golf Team has been newly formed. Team membership is open to both men and women ID card holders 18 years and older and out of high school. Prospective members should have a handicap of 24 or lower. To learn more, call 09802-83-2085 or DSN 467-2085.

Mission Complete Race

Fifth Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment, and USAG Ansbach Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hold the "Mission Complete Race," a five-kilometer obstacle course, May 3 at Franken Kaserne off B13 with GPS address of "Muna Siedlung, 91613 Marktbergel." Registrants pay $30 now through April 19 and $35 April 20 through May 3. Family teams pay $50; non-family teams pay $100. YOUTH AND TEENS

School supplies

Parents who find attaining school supplies every August difficult and stressful have an easier way to get hold of binders, pencils, erasers and more. The Illesheim Elementary School Parent Teacher Student Association is once again taking orders for school supply boxes to allow families a one-stop service to ensure children have all items required by the Department of Defense Education Activity. The order form can be found for download at www.ansbach.army.mil/documents/SchoolSupplyFormSY13-14.pdf and a list of the required supplies can be found at www.ansbach.army.mil/documents/SchoolSupplyList.pdf. Orders for supplies will be ongoing through the PTSA's Spring Carnival, which is May 17. Fliers will be sent home with your children as well. If you miss ordering this time around, IES will have the supply boxes available for pick-up at the IES's meet-and-greet in August the Friday before school starts.

Ansbach Middle/High registration

Registration for students returning to Ansbach Middle/High School will be from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. April 19 at the Ansbach Middle/High School Library. To register their dependents, sponsors need updated orders or ORBs for officers or ERBs for enlisted; updated deployment orders only if deployed; updated immunization records; contact information including local and stateside emergency contacts; and an updated email address. Being a designated driver has its benefits. At Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation events, let the FMWR staff know you are a designated driver, receive a wristband and enjoy coffee or sodas on the house.

Ansbach guided tours

Tour Ansbach with a guide every Sunday at 11 a.m. for 3 euros per person. The group meets at the Schlossplatz near the horse sculpture "Anscavallo." English-language tours are by reservation only and must be booked with the Ansbach Tourism Office two weeks in advance. The group rate is 80 euros per group with a maximum of 35 people. Eagle's Nest

The Barton Barracks "Eagle's Nest," located next to Duggan Gym, offers a full working kitchen with an area to seat more than 30 people. The Eagle's Nest is open to all community members. Safety hazard

Between Ansbach and Illesheim, there is a safety hazard on B-13. North of Oberdachstetten there is a steep decline that goes under a railroad overpass. One lane of traffic goes down the hill and two lanes go up. Do not pass.
