WASHINGTON (Aug. 1, 2012) -- The Department of the Army announced today the planned activation of the 82d Civil Affairs Battalion at Fort Stewart, Ga. This stationing action represents a net increase of 265 military and zero civilian authorizations at Fort Stewart, GA. This stationing action will be completed by September 16, 2012.
The 82d Civil Affairs Battalion can rapidly deploy regionally focused, initial entry, Civil Affairs Planning Teams, Civil-Military Operations Centers, Civil Affairs Companies, and Civil Affairs Teams to plan, enable, shape, and conduct Civil Affairs Operations to support the commander's situational understanding of the civil component and improve overall decision superiority. The 82d Civil Affairs Battalion is prepared to serve as the core of a Civil Affairs Task Force.
These force structure actions, as part of the Army's broader strategic and operational requirements incorporate initiatives to include Army Force Generation Model and Army Transformation, both required to achieve the Army's goal of rebalancing the force and reducing over-structure.
Overall, this unit activation supports the Army's conversion to a modular brigade-based structure and provide Combatant Commanders with flexible, trained and highly mobile forces to execute operations in theater and worldwide. The Army is transforming to provide a more relevant organization to meet its' worldwide strategic and operational requirements.
