USAG POHAKULOA, Hawaii - U.S. Army Garrison Pohakuloa celebrated the Army's 237th birthday Thursday with a brief ceremony and a cake cutting by the oldest and youngest Soldiers here.
Pohakuloa Plans and Operations Officer Steve Troute opened the ceremony with a reading of the Army birthday message from Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno.
Garrison commander Lt. Col. Chris Niles spoke next and addressed the Army's history of service to America and its traditions. He asked those attending to remember and honor the Soldiers who have died throughout history as well as those Soldiers who never came home.
Following Niles' remarks retired Sgt. 1st Class Decky Lopez, the Range Operations Supervisor and Staff Sgt. Nathan T. Brown, the training noncommissioned officer for 100th Battalion 442nd Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army Reserve, cut the cake with a sabre.
