YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- A recently approved policy change will limit the hours that alcohol is available for sale at Army and Air Force Exchange Service facilities within U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan.

The AAFES supported change prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages after 9 p.m., 7 days a week and goes into effect on March 15, 2012. The affected Yongsan AAFES Shoppettes are located at the Dragon Hill Lodge and the Main Post Mini-Mall.

"The policy change promotes the health and welfare of the Service Members, Families and Civilians serving our Community," said Col. William Huber, garrison commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan. "Stopping the sale of alcohol after 9 p.m. helps implement an alcohol risk reduction and prevention strategy that responds to potential problems before they jeopardize readiness, productivity, and careers."

AAFES began to promote the policy change through its customer newsletter and its use of visual merchandise in front of the Shoppettes at the end of February.

"The new hours for alcohol sales are consistent with all other AAFES facilities throughout Area II," Huber said. "This is a standardization process."

The Shoppettes located at Hannam Village and K-16 close before 9 p.m.
