SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Col. Susan A. Davidson, deputy commander for Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, pinned on the rank of brigadier general today during a ceremony at Fort Belvoir, Va., making her deputy commanding general of SDDC.

Lt. Gen. Raymond V. Mason, deputy chief of staff, Army G-4, officiated the ceremony.

Davidson assumed duties as deputy commander of SDDC July 15, 2011.

Her military career began as a cadet at New Mexico Military Institute, followed by her graduation from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. She received her commission in May 1983 and came on active duty in April 1986.

Davidson's military education includes the Chemical Officer Basic Course, Transportation Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Air Command and Staff College, Support Operations Course, Phase II, and Navy War College. She also holds a Master of Military Art and Science in Advanced Military Studies, and Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

SDDC is the Army Service Component Command of the U.S. Transportation Command and is a major subordinate command to Army Materiel Command. This relationship links U.S. TRANSCOM's Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise and AMC's Materiel Enterprise. The command also partners with the commercial transportation industry as the coordinating link between Department of Defense surface transportation requirements and the capability industry provides.
