REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.--The annual Redstone Career Day was a success, according to Terrence Hamil, the work force developmental specialist for AMCOM's Integrated Materiel Management Center.

"We had a lot of great feedback from some of the people who attended," he said. "It was just a great opportunity for the work force to get information and a little help on their career path."

Sponsored by IMMC, Redstone Career Day, held in Bob Jones Auditorium on Oct. 5, gave all Redstone employees a chance to learn about career enhancing opportunities.

The event offered advice for all levels in the civil service, from student hires to supervisors.

"We had quite a few supervisors attend. Of about 105 people, approximately 22 of them were supervisors," Hamil said. "It's really encouraging to see supervisors there getting informed so they can take that information back to their employees."

Throughout the day there were several different speakers and topics, including Lean Six Sigma, Army Acquisitions, Tomorrow's Army Civilian Leaders, AMCOM Developmental Assignments and more.

"One young man we talked to told us that he believed due to the event we would have an informed work force," Hamil said. "Another young lady said she believed this would help her establish a career path. They were really excited when they left."

To change the event from past years, various colleges were invited to set up in the foyer of Bob Jones. Athens State, Florida Institute of Technology, Columbia College, University of Alabama-Huntsville and Emory-Riddle each had tables to help connect employees to educational opportunities.

"It's great to foster those relationships with colleges because career paths and education really go hand-in-hand," Hamil said. "Getting a degree can really open up doors for you in your career."

Career day will return in 2012. "We're going do the same thing but add another little twist next year," Hamil said.
