FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (Oct. 11, 2011) -- Palm Circle will become a battle ground Oct. 15 when riders mount their horses for the inaugural polo match between Army Gold and Army Black.

Polo Pa'ina starts 11 a.m. on the grounds of Fort Shafter's historic Palm Circle. Activities include pony and carriage rides, military static displays, kids' activities, food, music and other entertainment.

Riders will start warming up 1 p.m., and the match begins 2 p.m. The day will end with awards presentations, music and a retreat ceremony.

Polo Pa'ina is open to the public. The inaugural polo match is organized by the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Army Polo-Hawaii. Lt. Gen. Francis Wiercinski, commander of U.S. Army-Pacific, has invited military members, Families and the local community to the first Polo Pa'ina on Palm Circle.
