KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany " The 66th Transportation Company, 39th Movement Control Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade, was awarded the Army Safety Excellence Streamer by Col. Keith Sledd, the commander of the 16th Sust. Bde. during a ceremony on Kleber Kaserne here, July 28.
The Army Safety Excellence Streamer is awarded to units without any Class A or Class B accidents within a 12-month period and have completed 100 percent of Composite Risk Management training.
Class A accidents result in property damage of $2,000,000 or more or an injury or occupational illness resulting in a fatality or permanent total disability while a Class B accident results in property damage of $500,000 or more, but less than $2,000,000 and an injury or occupational illness which results in permanent partial disability, or when three or more personnel are hospitalized as inpatients as the result of a single occurrence.
“The fact that they were able to get 100 percent CRM completion is the really impressive part,” said Jeff Buchanan, the 16th Sust. Bde. safety manager. “It means that every Soldier in the unit understands the Army safety program, so for a unit that size to complete the CRM course online, it’s a big accomplishment.”
CRM is the Army’s primary decision-making process for identifying hazards and controlling risks across the full spectrum of Army missions, functions, operations, and activities.
“What this means to me is that my Soldiers are doing the right thing day in and day out on the road,” said Capt. Hunter J. Berg, the commander of the 66th Trans. Co., 39th MCB, 16th Sust. Bde. “They are putting safety in front of speed or taking shortcuts.”
This is the first time the 66th Trans. Co. has received the Army Safety Excellence Streamer since 2005.
“It makes me feel like I’ve done a successful job as a commander, my (noncommissioned officers) are doing a successful job and that the Soldiers are doing the right thing all the time,” said Berg.
