FORT GORDON, Ga. -- The Wounded Warriors of Fort Gordon were recently treated to a day of golf in South Carolina. The Fort Gordon Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club Association hosted the Wounded Warriors Golf Par 3 Scramble June 25 at Porters Par 3 in Clarks Hill, S.C. According to Master Sgt. Michael Morton, a Fort Gordon Sergeant Audie Murphy Club member and coordinator for the event, this was the first golf tournament sponsored by the club for the Wounded Warriors of Fort Gordon.

The tournament not only gave the Soldiers must needed relaxation time away from their medical treatment and the barracks, but gave them an opportunity to improve their upper body strength involved in their golf swing, increased their stamina and their lower body strength through the dozens of squats involved in picking up and laying down their balls. Their Families also participated in an assortment of games, challenges and some miniature golf.

The 9-hole tournament drew 47 Wounded Warriors and at least 50 civilian golfers in support of the tournament and raised $13,554 in food, prizes and monetary donations in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. All the Wounded Warriors received a new set of golf clubs. Promotional prizes of camelbacks, backpacks, T-shirts, footballs, golf balls and much more were given away. Every participant received a prize.
