ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. - Brig. Gen. Gustave Perna, commanding general of the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command, toured Anniston Defense Munitions Center March 22. This visit was part of an effort for Perna to see the subordinate commands he currently controls.

The visit began with Perna receiving a briefing on current and future ADMC operations at ADMC Headquarters. This meeting gave Perna a chance to share his goals and vision for ADMC and all JMC organizations.

Perna was then taken to the Ammunition Limited Area to get a closer look at day-to-day operations.

"I am here to get to know the employees of ADMC and, by doing so, have a better idea of the work done here," said Perna.

The tour included a trip to ADMC's demilitarization grounds to witness the open detonation of several 66 mm rockets. While at the demolition grounds, Perna also saw an "open burn," which is the process of burning propellant from unserviceable munitions.

The next stop was the future site of ADMC's Multiple Launch Rocket System Recycling Facility. Perna was taken through the site, which is currently under construction, and briefed by Tim Arrington of Anniston Army Depot's Directorate of Public Works and Patricia Page of ADMC's production management division.

From the MLRS Recycle Facility, the group headed to the TOW Missile Recycle Center. This was a unique opportunity for the commanding general, as this is a one-of-a-kind facility in the Army.

At the MRC, Perna saw TOW missiles dismantled and parts separated for either recycle or reuse.

Lastly, the group proceeded to ADMC Headquarters for the out-brief and final comments from the general and Lt. Col. Randall DeLong, ADMC's commander.

"I now have an enlightened vision of the capabilities available here at ADMC and can apply this knowledge to mission planning for the future," said Perna. "There are great indicators that the command is looking out for the employees of ADMC and I am excitedly looking forward to returning to Anniston in the near future."

"The ADMC team and our supporting ANAD teammates pulled out all stops to provide our new commanding general an opportunity to meet our outstanding employees and learn exactly what assets and capabilities we contribute to the Joint Munitions Command's support of the warfighter," said DeLong. "Perna's guidance and mentorship during the visit were invaluable in confirming our role and direction in the continuing JMC mission."
