Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, commander of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and The U.S Army Military District of Washington hosted an farewell and award ceremony on July 1 for Maj. Jonathan P. Graebener, former aide de camp. Graebener received The Meritorious Service Medal for serving as the commander of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard and as aide de camp to the commanding general of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and The U.S Army Military District of Washington. Graebener was cited by Maj. Gen. Horst for his professionalism and "mission first" attitude. Col. (Ret) Robert Graebener (Maj. Graebener's father) assisted Maj. Gen. Horst in pinning the medal on Maj. Graebener.
Graebener thanked everyone who assisted him while he was at the Old Guard and while he served as aide de camp. "I have learned from so many people who are considered national treasures like Phil Fowler. I have had so many experiences that are a part of history. It has been honor for me to work with each of you," he said.
Graebener will attend the Marine Corps Staff College at Quantico.
