FORT KNOX, Ky. - Chief Warrant Officer Albert L. Rhone and Sgt. Major Gregory Hartl, officially marked the end of their Army careers during a retirement ceremony here in the Leaders Club on Friday, April 30.
Hosted by Col. David Hubner, commander of the 1st Brigade, U.S. Army Cadet Command, the ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of the retiring Soldiers' time in service.
"You've done a lot in your lives and you've also given up a lot of things to make this a better world in which we live," Hubner said to the retirees and their Families. "You sacrificed being with your Families, you've missed birthdays, holidays, ballgames and some of you have even missed the births of your own children."
"Now is the chance for you to make up for some of these missed events. Please enjoy."
Rhone, the senior maintenance technician for the 3d ESC's Material Readiness Branch, retired after 34 years of active federal service. Rhone was also the 3d ESC's most senior warrant officer and headed the command's warrant officer professional development program.
Because Rhone served for more than 30 years, he received a letter from President Barrack Obama, congratulating home on his accomplishments.
He was presented the Legion of Merit for his meritorious service from Aug. 31, 2000 to Sept. 1, 2010. After his retirement, Rhone and his Family will reside in Knoxville, Tenn.
Also participating in the ceremony was Hartl, who served as the 3d ESC's G-6 senior enlisted advisor. Hartl retired after 24 years of active federal service and said he was pleased with what he considered to be a successful career.
"It's exciting when you look back at your career, and to now be able to start a new phase of my life," said Hartl. "I've been very fortunate to have had a very good career."
Now that he is retired, Hartl said he looks forward to spending more time with his Family. He explained that he spent much of his career with Special Forces units and as a result, spent a lot of time away from his Family.
And now that he has the time, a certain Family member has plans to utilize it to the best of her ability.
"It's been a long awaited retirement," said Hartl's wife, Susan. "I have a very long honey-do list waiting for him at home."
During the ceremony, Hartl was presented the Legion of Merit for his meritorious service from Aug. 31, 2000 to Sept. 1, 2010. Hartl and his Family will make their home in Swansea, Illinois.
