It wasn't a first-time trip to Rock Island Arsenal for Jimmie Ring, deputy chief of staff for First Army, when she visited March 2 and 3 to look at the Army's ongoing headquarters remodeling effort.

Ring attended middle and high school in Bettendorf, Iowa, and her father, Marv Cotton, retired from the Arsenal.

She said the progress on the First Army's new offices in Bldg. 68 is amazing.

"I'm very impressed with the whole team coming together," she said. "I looked at where they're building the Operations Center on the third floor, and they're a little ahead of schedule. It looks great."

She said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is overseeing the contract, and the contractor, are both doing excellent work.

Ring, who has been with First Army for more than two years, said she will be "on the ground" at the Arsenal sometime in the first quarter of 2011.
