March of Remembrance for Palestine to Pass Through Poznan

On May 14 at 5:00 p.m. from the headquarters of the Military Police in Poznań at ul. Marcelińska 13, the March of Remembrance for Palestine will set off - an event organized on the eve of the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, which is part of the nationwide pro-Palestinian movement. The march is planned to end at the Bałtyk building.

"For a year, we have been protesting, educating and acting in solidarity with the Palestinians. In the face of the escalating genocide in Gaza and the silence of the Polish authorities - also in the face of appeals from the European Parliament for sanctions against Israel - we cannot remain indifferent," the organizers inform. "There are no hospitals in northern Gaza anymore, and no humanitarian aid has been allowed in for months. The UN warns that we are dealing with the final phase of extermination. In Poland, in the shadow of growing neo-fascist and anti-immigrant movements, the March of Remembrance is also an expression of opposition to racism and xenophobia - both domestically and internationally," they add.

As Radio Poznań reports today, those who would like to run a café in this location can still apply. "On the eighteenth floor of the Collegium Altum building, we have a prepared and equipped space for running a café. It is about 40 square meters. The terrace at Collegium Altum is to be open seven days a week. It has already been announced that for children up to 3 years of age and people with disabilities, admission to the terrace will be free.

Spring Cleaning in Poznań Collects Nearly 40 Tons of Waste

Tires, old and worn furniture, advertising banners, and even a bicycle or... originally packaged Coco Chanel perfumes - during this year's Spring Cleaning, the people of Poznań found many "treasures". A total of 39 tons of waste were collected.

Spring Cleaning has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of events in the capital of Wielkopolska. The campaign has been organized for 27 years and continues to enjoy great interest. The numbers prove it. This year, 223 groups signed up for the joint cleaning, with over 19,700 declared participants. This is even more than last year (back then there were 202 teams and almost 18,000 volunteers). More rubbish was also collected - 39 tons (last year 37.5 tons). This result could have been determined by the fact that this year's Spring Cleaning campaign also lasted an exceptionally long time, not just one weekend, but almost an entire month - from April 1 to 27.

As always, the Municipal Economy Department of the Poznań City Hall provided the necessary cleaning supplies - garbage bags and gloves - to those who expressed their willingness to participate in the campaign, as well as collection of the collected waste.

Furniture, tires, shopping carts... Such rubbish has its place

What did the Poznań residents who were cleaning up the city find? Most often, they found aluminum cans and glass bottles, mostly from alcoholic beverages. Among the finds were also old furniture and other interior design elements - sofas, armchairs, mattresses, swivel chairs, carpets, as well as car tires, fireworks packaging, shopping carts and such "flowers" as a bicycle, a fire extinguisher or originally packaged Coco Chanel perfume.

- These are items that should never end up in forests, parks, on the shores of lakes and rivers, or in less frequented areas. We have nearly 10.5 thousand bins for small waste in the city. In addition, there are waste containers located in housing estates or near commercial facilities - enumerates Agata Chęcińska, head of the Municipal Services Department of WGK UMP.

As for the so-called problematic waste (e.g. paint and solvent packaging, batteries, expired medicines, household appliances and RTV equipment), they should be taken to Gratowiska (Punkty Selektywnego Zbierania Odpadów Komunalnych - PSZOK for short) or handed over to Gratowóz, i.e. Mobile Point Selektywnego Zbierania Odpadów Komunalnych (MPSZOK). For the past two months, it has also been collecting used clothing and textiles.

Small electrical and electronic devices can also be thrown into special containers for electronic waste (they are located in some Poznań housing estates or in specialist shops). Unneeded or unusable medicines can be taken to a chemist, and used batteries can be thrown into containers that are displayed in many supermarkets, schools and public utility facilities.

Old and worn-out furniture, which is often abandoned in Poznań's forests or less frequented places, should be displayed in an appropriate place on designated days (as so-called exhibition waste, it is collected throughout the year, usually once a month). It can also be taken to one of the Gratowiskos at any time.

Of course, you should also remember to segregate every day. People who do not know where to throw away certain waste can use the search engine available on the portal Wszystko o odpadach . There you will also find collection schedules, Gratowóz travel dates and many other useful information.
