FORT KNOX, Ky. — The Army and Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Knox now has a way for its customers to shop for appliances sold at Home Depot without ever entering a Home Depot store.

The Exchange has reached an agreement with the home improvement retailer to offer a way for military customers to order appliances at the Exchange. Main store manager Jada Gadsden said this can be a time saver for Fort Knox residents who normally would have to drive 30 minutes to a store in Elizabethtown or Louisville.

“This makes it easier for the customer,” said Jada Gadsden, main store manager. “Once the order is placed, Home Depot does the delivery, they do installation and they do removal, depending on the appliances.”

Gadsden said price savings adds another benefit of purchasing appliances at the Exchange.

“They should be a little cheaper here than at the Home Depot store,” said Gadsden. “Our customers won’t pay taxes on anything because it’s being purchased here. And if the price of the appliance isn’t lower than Home Depot, we’ll match their price.”

The appliances are available to purchase by all Defense Department personnel, retirees and any others who are eligible to shop at the Exchange. Selection and pricing can be found either in the store or online at https://www.shopmyexchange.com.

Once an order has been made, Home Depot will then deliver the appliance to the home of the customer and do installation. However, Home Depot will not install or remove built-in appliances or alter any existing cabinetry or flooring to perform the installation, according to Gadsden.

Exchange shoppers can use a handheld device upon request to make their orders and set up delivery. They can also shop at the My Exchange website for Home Depot appliances.

Customers who want to purchase appliances in the store may do so through a handheld device upon request at the Customer Service desk or a sales associate in the appliances department.

“And if the customer prefers not to order on the handheld device, we have computers within the store behind Customer Service where we can assist them through My Exchange.com,” said Gadsden.

Gadsden said prior to delivery appliances are inspected for damages. However, if customers note damages at the time of delivery, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service will offer a damage allowance, replacement or refund for minor damages. For major damage, the item will be replaced.

“The day before delivery, the customer will receive an email or text message giving them a four-hour window for the delivery process,” said Gadsden. “If anything needs changing for the delivery, most of the time the store itself will be able to help.”
