FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — On May 12, we will celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Military spouses serve alongside their service member — enduring long training days, deployments, frequent moves and the uncertainties of military life. Military members and their families rely on their spouses for comfort and stability. Our military spouses are courageous and resilient teammates who make our installation and the surrounding communities stronger.
Louise Wood, spouse of our post’s namesake, Maj. Gen. Leonard Wood, was a tremendous example for all. She was a strong advocate for her Soldier, while also showing selfless volunteerism and support for the Army and its missions. To recognize the dedication of the spouses of Fort Leonard Wood’s service members, retirees, veterans and Department of Army civilians, our team has recently implemented the Louise A. Wood Spouse Award. We encourage you to leverage every opportunity to recognize the significant accomplishments of our spouses, and this award is one avenue. More information can be found here.
Our Army Community Service would also like to honor spouses by hosting a Military Spouse Appreciation Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday at the ACS building, Bldg. 486. Events include a concert from our 399th Army Band, lunch, and bowling — classes will also be available on nutrition, finance, gardening, spousal employment, resume writing and more. Call ACS at 573.596.0212 for details.
Thank you to our military spouses for all you do to support our community and your service member. We are proud to serve with you!
