Free Throw Competition

A free throw competition will be held Jan. 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Yano Fitness Center.

The event will have men’s and women’s divisions and is open to all military personnel, retirees, Department of the Army civilians, AAFES employees, SOFA family members, JGSDF members and local-national employees who are 18 or older and out of high school. There is no cost to enter this event.

The deadline to register is Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., and entrants can do so by visiting the front desk at Yano.

This is a Commander’s Cup event, and awards will be given to the first- and second-place finishers in both divisions.

Live Music at SHA Club Bar

Come and enjoy live entertainment at the SHA Club Bar Jan. 28 beginning at 8:30 p.m.

- Tamm in the Attic: 9:30 to 10:15 p.m.

This is an adults-only event.

‘Biggest Loser’ Fitness Program

The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, in coordination with the Army Wellness Center, will hold a six-week “Biggest Loser” fitness program beginning Feb. 6.

Registration for the program is currently ongoing and is free for active-duty military members, while all other participants must pay a $15 fee. Those interested can sign up at the front desk at Yano Fitness Center. Participation is limited to the first 35 individuals to sign up. The deadline to register is Jan. 31 at 9 p.m.

The program is open to all military personnel on Camp Zama, Sagami Depot and Sagamihara Family Housing Area; retirees; Department of the Army civilians; AAFES employees; and SOFA family members who are 18 or older and not in high school.

Awards will be presented to the top male and female “Biggest Losers.”

The Biggest Loser is a self-directed program designed to help individuals achieve and maintain a healthy weight and body composition through health education and behavioral change. Participants will be introduced to weight-management strategies in the areas of sleep, nutrition and activity.

Super Bowl Celebration

Camp Zama’s Super Bowl celebration will be held Feb. 13, with the doors opening at 7 a.m., in both the large ball room and the Game Time sports bar.

Tickets are first-come, first-serve, and they will go on sale beginning Jan. 26 for Gridiron Challenge players, and Jan. 27 for the general public.

The tickets will be on sale at the Camp Zama Community Club. Premium tickets at the Game Time sports bar are $30 each, and that comes with seating in the sports bar; a commemorative mug; breakfast; and a mid-morning snack at 11 a.m. that includes hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and chips and salsa.

Tickets for the ball room are $10 each, and include breakfast and a light mid-day snack.

Camp Zama Library Book Club Restarting

Kanto Plain Basketball Jam Fest Competition

The inaugural Kanto Plain Basketball Jam Fest competition will be held Feb. 18 and 19 at the Yano Fitness Center.

The competition is open to the first six teams that sign up, and the registration fee is $500 per team. Teams must register at the Yano front desk by Feb. 1 at 9 p.m. All players must be 18 or older and out of high school.

Awards will be presented to the first- and second-place teams, with the winning team receiving an MVP trophy.

Zama International Association Multicultural Festival
The Zama International Association will host its annual Multicultural Festival March 5 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Sunny Place Zama, located next to Zama City Hall.

No-Drone Zone

All U.S. Army in Japan installations are “no-drone zones,” meaning all drone usage is prohibited. That includes the very popular toy drones.

Also be advised that Japan has strict drone usage laws and if you intend to fly one off post, you should ensure you understand those laws.

Time Change for Booking Space-Available Appointments

The BG Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic recently changed the time for space-available patients to call for scheduling a same-day appointment. The time has changed from 11 a.m. to 10 a.m., and calls can be made to DSN 262-4175 or 046-407-4175.
