U.S. Air Force Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, toured Operation Allies Refuge activities at Fort Lee, Virginia, Aug. 3.

The Department of Defense, in support of the Department of State, is providing transportation and temporary housing for Afghan special immigrant applicants recently relocated to the United States to complete the final steps of the immigration process.

This initiative follows through on America's commitment to Afghan citizens who have helped the United States, and provides them essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan, where they and their families can complete the Special Immigrant Visa process safely.

“USNORTHCOM, in support of DOS, is honored to lead the DOD efforts toward this critical mission,” VanHerck confirmed in a written statement provided by his public affairs team. “In all we do, we will demonstrate our commitment to our Afghan partners and their families who have sacrificed in pursuit of mutual security objectives.”
