FORT HAMILTON, N.Y. - New York City's U.S. Army Recruiting

Battalion announced its change-of-command ceremony for 10 a.m., Friday,

July 24, 2009, at Fort Hamilton's Bluff.

At the ceremony, Lt. Col. Paul J. Cook will relinquish command of the

U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion New York City to Lt. Col. Omuso D.

George, who previously served as the Deputy Director for Resource

Management, Gulf Region Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baghdad,

Iraq.

Though the battalion's area of operations is considered geographically

small in comparison to other recruiting battalions, the area is

considered one of the most densely populated areas in the U.S.,

exceeding 13 million people. The battalion is assigned over 300

military and civilian personnel and is one of the largest in the U.S.

Army Recruiting Command.

George, a native of Hempstead, N.Y., earned his Army commission in 1991

as an Air Defense Artillery Officer upon graduating from the U.S.

Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.

Cook, a native of California, has served as commander of the battalion

since Aug. 20, 2007. His next assignment is Chief of Staff for the U.S.

Army Recruiting Command's 1st Recruiting Brigade headquartered at Fort

Meade, Md.
