BIRMINGHAM, AL - - Brig. Gen. Stephen M. Rutner became the 6th commander of the Deployment Support Command at a traditional change of command ceremony here February 8, 2020. The change of command ceremony symbolizes a transition of authority that recognizes the outgoing commander's accomplishments, while welcoming the incoming commander to the organization.

Maj. Gen. Gregory J. Mosser, commanding general of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, presided over the ceremony where the DSC's outgoing commanding general, Brig. Gen. Martin F. Klein, relinquished command to Rutner.

Mosser stated that Rutner was the right leader to build upon the standard of excellence at the DSC and has extensive logistical experience. After listing Rutner's civilian education, where logistics is the prime focus, Mosser stated, "Need I say more," in regards to the DSC being placed with a highly knowledgeable leader.

During his welcome speech, Rutner expressed his gratitude for assuming command and provided remarks regarding Klein's successful tenure as the former DSC commanding general.

Klein delivered a profound speech to the Soldiers of the DSC and pinpointed specific duties in each organization. Also, Klein informed the audience that Rutner was a strong leader and the DSC would continue to make an impact in various facets of Army logistics. Klein will be serving at the Pentagon as the chief of the Army's Strategic Operations Directorate.

The Deployment Support Command is a direct-reporting command of the 377th Theater Support Command and is operationally controlled by the U.S. Army's Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. The DSC provides SDDC an integrated total-force capability executing military terminal and rail operations with 48 Army Reserve units spanning 18 States.
