JORDAN - U.S. Army Soldiers, with 115th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB), Wyoming Army National Guard (WYARNG), gathered alongside Jordan Armed Forces-Arab army (JAF) Soldiers for a ceremony that formally commenced the joint training exercise Decisive Spear at Joint Training Center-Jordan October 31.
In attendance was U.S. Army Col. Kent Porter, 115th FAB commander, WYARNG, who said the exercise allotted the opportunity to develop skills at regimental level, as well as providing an atmosphere to aid junior Soldiers and officers in their professional development. The artillery-centered exercise will focus on increasing interoperability with weapon systems, mission planning, execution and strengthening of the partnership with America and Jordan.
"Exercises such as this show our resolve to our adversaries to make sure they do not provoke any action against either country," said Porter, "With this exercise, we enhance the ability of our countries to meet our common security objectives."
The U.S. is committed to the security of Jordan and to partnering closely with the JAF to meet common security challenges. The U.S. military has a long-standing relationship with Jordan to support our mutual objectives by providing military assistance to the JAF consistent with our national interests.
JAF Brig. Gen. Hatem Zubabi, field artillery commander, gave remarks at the ceremony and urged everyone to learn as much as they could during the exercise. He explained that if there is an understanding of why something is done one way or another, it will help develop and improve future operations.
"The intention is not to evaluate one partner over another," explained Hatem, "It is rather to achieve an understanding."
As we continue to refine a strategy that ensures the enduring defeat of terrorist organizations like ISIS and increases the prospects for sustainable peace in the region, the U.S. remains committed to Jordan's security and stability.
