The Recruiting and Retention College of U.S. Army Recruiting Command is taking steps to receive accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education.

The council has a 48-year history of accrediting occupational programs and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a reliable authority in determining institutional quality. It accredits at least 550 post-secondary institutions with approximately 44 of those being federal institutions.

The RRC applied for candidacy in July of 2019, and the first evaluation team visit is expected to occur Aug. 26-27. After the visit, the commission will then vote to determine whether to grant the RRC Candidate status, which will allow the RRC dean and Quality Assurance officer to attend the COE's Candidate Academy Part 2 in November. Benefits of accreditation include institutional reviews by an objective and external team of experts, participation in reviews and accreditation of other federal institutions, and being measured against accepted national standards.

The next planned accreditation visit, in May of 2020, aligns with a planned U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command accreditation visit. If accredited, the RRC will join the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, Army Medical Department Center and School, Army Logistics University, Army Management Staff College, and others as an accredited institution.

As a result, the U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention College, located at 1929 Old Ironsides Ave., Fort Knox KY 40121, is applying to become a candidate for accreditation with the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
