The Army Public Health Center officially welcomed Capt. Zachary Schroeder and bid farewell to Maj. Diana M. Rommelfanger-Konkol during a Headquarters and Headquarters Company change of command ceremony April 9.

The host and reviewing officer for the ceremony was U.S. Army Medical Command Troop Commander Col. Susan Davis. The first sergeant for the ceremony was 1st Sgt. Teresa Mayo and Lt. Col. Ronald Cole led the invocation.

Some notable leaders in attendance included Col. Jennifer McDannald, APHC deputy director and Sgt. Maj. Malisha Palmer, APHC's senior enlisted advisor. The ceremony was a well-attended event, with a mix of military personnel, civilians, family and friends present.

During the ceremony, Rommelfanger-Konkol thanked her family, fellow Soldiers and colleagues. She welcomed Schroeder to the APHC family, and left him with some pillars of advice she learned from her time in command.

"Be the leader that exemplifies you, not the perceptions of you," said Rommelfanger-Konkol. "And know that upholding fair and consistent standards poses challenges in the short term but pays dividends in the long term. Enjoy the experience and best of luck!"

Schroeder thanked the APHC leadership for his new opportunity and said he is looking forward to serving in his new position.

"I am both humbled by the responsibility that Mr. Resta and Col. McDannald have entrusted me and excited about the opportunity to work with the Soldiers and leaders of APHC," said Schroeder. "I look forward to the many lessons and opportunities for growth that company command invariably affords."

Rommelfanger-Konkol has served as the HHC commander since July 2017. She previously served as the Chief of the Nerve Agent Countermeasures Program at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense. She also previously served as a biochemistry and physiology officer in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Sciences at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. While at LRMC, she also served as the Assistant Chief of Laboratory Compliance, Central Processing Officer in Charge and Clinical Chemistry Officer in Charge.

Schroeder previously served as the chief of current operations at APHC. Prior to his assignment at APHC, he served as the Brigade Environmental Science and Engineering Officer for the First Stryker Brigade.
