Soldiers of the 349th Combat Support Hospital assumed authority of United States Military Hospital - Kuwait at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, May 6, 2019. The unit they assumed authority from the 452d Combat Support Hospital, who completed their nine month rotation this month.

The mission they're handing over is an essential one.

"Without outstanding medical professionals caring for the force, the force cannot sustain," said Brig. Gen Clint E. Walker, deputy commanding general of 1st Theater Sustainment Command. "That's why the mission that the 452d Combat Support Hospital is completing and the 349th Combat Support Hospital is taking on is essential. It is a 'No Fail Mission'!"

The hospital has the job of caring for Soldiers in Kuwait as well as in other areas of the theater.

The Bell, Calif., based 349th CSH is prepared for the mission said Col. Betty Demus, 349th commander.

"The Soldiers here with me represent 29 states. We're all excited to be here to begin providing health care to Soldiers in this area of operations in support of the commanding general's priorities."

One of 1st TSC's lines of effort is building and maintaining relationships with partner nations, another responsibility the hospital accepts with pride.

"We want to continue the work that the 452d has done with our Kuwaiti partners and also continue the work with allied nations located in this area," she said.
