ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (April 19, 2018) -- The Army's Network Cross-Functional Team (CFT), in collaboration with Program Executive Office Command, Control, and Communications-Tactical; Program Executive Office Aviation; and the Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team, will host a tactical network related technical exchange meeting (TEM) on May 30, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee.
This one-day event -- meant for a technical audience, to include systems engineers, architecture experts, data analytical experts and integrators -- will cover Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) experimentation and design decisions to support new network technology as part of the Army's tactical network Capability Set fielding plans. It will also share detailed information on the Army's strategy and challenges for Air and Ground network capability that will support future Capability Set needs.
The ITN is a major Army tactical network modernization effort that seeks to add new commercial network capability in order to provide commanders with connectivity and multiple communication paths during operations. The ITN will also enable less-complex information sharing with joint and coalition partners. The TEM sessions will inform industry on ITN and near-term Capability Set systems, experimentation plans, network design goals and decisions, and horizontal integration needs.
As part of capability set development, the Army will build a network that enables seamless exchange of information between aviation and ground forces. Air-to-ground-focused TEM panels will discuss new methods of managing the growing amount of data generated by aircraft sensors, maintenance systems, ISR feeds and situational awareness tools. Panel members will highlight needs for Future Vertical Lift platform communication links across greater ranges and in new operational environments. Additionally, developers will highlight the Army's intent to leverage Modular Open System Architecture to provide an opportunity to rapidly integrate innovative capability into air platforms.
Representatives from Army program offices, CFTs, research and development centers and capabilities management/requirements offices will be part of the technical exchange meeting. The goal of the event is to assist industry partners and interested government organizations in identifying and aligning their efforts with Army tactical network and aviation modernization.
