The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) "Surface Warrior Spotlight" for the month of October shines brightly on Jody Albers, a budget analyst from the command's G8 Directorate.

SDDC's "Surface Warrior Spotlight" program focuses on a different member of the SDDC workforce each month through a series of interview-style questions that focus on his or her unique background, personal stories and experiences.

Last month, Larry Leonard, a video teleconference production specialist from SDDC's G6 Directorate, was the first Surface Warrior to be featured in the spotlight.

According to Bryan Samson, SDDC's deputy to the commander, the program is designed to "get to know the members of our SDDC Team a little better." That's why the questions you'll see asked extend beyond the usual work-related topics.

We asked Albers, who has been part of the SDDC team since 2012, 10 questions that ranged from professional expertise to personal experiences. Here's what she had to say:

Q. What do you do at SDDC?

A: I am a budget analyst for the Transportation Working Capital Fund (TWCF) and am responsible for the planning, formulating, justification and execution of the TWCF budget.

Q: What TV show or movie are you ashamed to admit you love?

A: Family Feud--I know it's just a game show, but I love Steve Harvey. He doesn't even have to talk; his facial expressions say it all.

Q: What would people be surprised about you if they only knew?

A: That a great rendition of the Star Spangled Banner will make me tear up.

Q: Before SDDC, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

A: I held a very interesting job with the Department of Justice. That's all I can say about that.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for SDDC?

A: I love what we do here; our mission is such a vital one. Anything we can do to help support the warfighter gives you a sense of worth and pride.

Q: What is your proudest moment at SDDC?

A: I have received several quality awards while at SDDC and that makes me feel proud of what I do. It feels good to get a "thank you" every now and then.

Q: If you could be anyone from any time period, who would it be, and why?

A: Sandra Day O'Connor on the day she became the first woman on the Supreme Court. What an accomplishment!

Q: How do you define success?

A: When you have what you NEED, not what you WANT - it's important to remember to be grateful for what we already have.

Q: What is the greatest challenge you have had to overcome in your life thus far?

A: I think picking up and moving to a foreign country with 3 small kids and they don't speak English was pretty challenging. Rewarding but challenging!

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?

A: Spending time with my family either at the lake or at the clubhouse. That's all I can remember doing on the weekends as a child.

When it comes down to it, Jody is a Surface Warrior that gets the job done, the right way, right away, and has fun while doing it. If you see her in the halls of the SDDC headquarters building, be sure to say hello. You'll notice her right away - she's the one with the smile on her face.
