FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. --Lt. Col. Chun Chan took command of the Fort Leonard Wood Dental Activity Command in a change of command ceremony Aug. 4.
Chan comes from Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he served as the commander of U.S. Army Dental Clinic Command.
He replaces Col. Alex Eke, who leaves DENTAC for an assignment in Kuwait.
Col. Michael Roberts, Regional Dental Heath Command-Central commander, presided over the event.
"One thing that is very unusual about this change of command is it's between two commanders who are naturalized citizens," Roberts said. "Together these two men remind me that this is an absolutely amazing country that we all defend and serve and that the American dream is definitely alive and well."
Eke emigrated from Nigeria when he was 16 years old and Chan from Hong Kong at age 17.
Roberts said Eke's time at Fort Leonard Wood demonstrates his strong leadership ability. Under his leadership, Fort Leonard Wood achieved 99 percent dental readiness and 68 percent dental wellness. Eke also made it his mission to improve the dental facilities here and expand the Soldier Readiness Processing site.
Eke took the podium and praised the accomplishments of his Soldiers. "Saying you are the best is an understatement," he said.
He addressed Chan telling him he is inheriting the best organization in the enterprise and to enjoy the best kept secret in the Army, Fort Leonard Wood and the Ozark community.
He ended his speech by signing off for the last time and tapping the mic to simulate a mic drop.
Chan thanked everyone for coming and vowed to work hard over the next three years to ensure our Soldiers stay dental ready.
