Military Spouses are the support upon which Service Members lean. That's why it's important your family always has access to employment resources.

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) provides employment opportunities and resources though corporate sponsorships, and is there to help all Army spouses, surviving spouses, DOD civilians, and family members gain the competitive edge they need for employment.

The program launched in 2011, after the Presidential Study Directive-9 Report, Strengthening Our Military Families: Meeting America's Commitment, showed the need for more career and education opportunities for military spouses. The Department of Defense expanded the already successful Army Spouse Employment Partnership to include Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force spouses.

As an active-duty Soldier, your spouse has access to all the resources that MSEP provides, including:

• Up-to-date resource information on available local, national and international employment opportunities, job market trends, and education and volunteer resources.

• Classes and seminars on self-assessment and career exploration, resume writing, interviewing techniques, dressing for success, networking, and entrepreneurship.

• Resume critiques.

• Career counseling and individual career assessments.

• Job fairs and other hiring events.

• Teen/youth employment Information.

• Computers with internet access, resume writing software, and typing tutorials.

All of MSEPs resources are available to your family up until 180 days after you separate from the military.

As an Army spouse, you also have access to the Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP). These resources include:

• Financial planning seminars, which help provide the information and tools you need to identify initial financial responsibilities, obligations and goals during transition.

• Individual employment counseling, where counselors assist in identifying a job objective, finalizing resumes and cover letters, dressing for success, negotiating salary and benefits.

• Job search resources and tools, including access to resume writers, job fairs, career days, and the SFL-TAP Reference Library.

As you think about retiring, make sure you involve your spouse in your decisions. These resources will help you and your spouse prepare, and succeed, in your job search.
