Everyone at the Corpus Christi Army Depot is invited to bring some cheer to some special children this holiday season.
Toys for Tots is back, now through December 9, 2016.
Donation boxes are set up in break rooms and at the major entrances and hot spots throughout the military helicopter repair and maintenance depot.
All toys collected during this toy drive will be delivered to the approximate 16,000 local children living in low-income families on December 17.
Since beginning the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program in 1947, Marines have distributed more than 452 million toys to more than 209 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made US Marines a leader in looking after less fortunate children at Christmas.
The program strives to give each child two gifts each year. They accept new and unwrapped gifts for children between the ages of newborn through 14 years. Keep in mind that the program prefers not to accept realistic looking weapons and gifts with food.
CCAD recommends employees donate gifts for the age group sponsored by their directorate or office. This is to ensure children of all ages receive gifts.
Heading the effort at the depot is flight test pilot, CW3 Tony L. Luke. This is his first year as the Toys for Tots lead. He joined CCAD in late July out of Fort Campbell with 18 years of active duty behind him and he's geared up to serve as the Toys for Tots Officer during his stint.
December 9th is the deadline to donate. On that day, all directorates and offices must transport all donation boxes and goods to CCAD's main collection site in Hangar 44 no later than 9 o'clock, Friday morning.
Toys will get loaded on trucks and sent to the Toys for Tots Warehouse in Sunrise Mall. Toys that are not picked up by the collection date will have to be dropped off to the warehouse or coordinated with the Toys for Tots Officer.
Over its lifespan, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections with more than 98 million toys valued at more than $694 million; plus provided promotion and support materials valued at over $8.5 million.
