Fort Huachuca -- The Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Committee hosted its annual Veterans Day luncheon Nov. 2 at the Thunder Mountain Activity Center. The event was well attended, with active-duty Soldiers and veterans of all ages.
Miss Sierra Vista Alexandrea Portela sang the National Anthem accompanied by the Military Intelligence Corps Band.
Jim Perrill, 95, and Pvt. Rebecca Bryant, 18, were recognized as the oldest and youngest veterans in attendance and together cut the cake with an Army saber.
"Think about the 6.8 million veterans that are with us today," said Maj. Gen. Scott D. Berrier, commanding general, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca. "It is only fitting that we take a day out of the year to recognize their service and really what it means to our country."
Berrier quoted American author Norman Vincent Peale who said, "'The man that lives for himself is a failure. The man that lives for others is a true success.' And if you think that one through, what it really speaks to is that sacrifice that our veterans have made for so many others. Whether on active duty or off following their service in the Army."
The following individuals were presented with awards during the luncheon.
