Eleven Soldiers from the Louisiana Branch of Public Health Activity -- Hood participated in a 5K run/walk to raise awareness about domestic violence in Louisiana.

Fort Polk Army Community Services hosts a Color Run 5K that is open to Soldiers, family members and civilians.

The event honors victims of domestic violence and increases public awareness of a public health issue that can be found among all ethnicities and across the socio-economic spectrum. The CDC has designated domestic violence and violence in general as a public health issue and there is a wealth of information on their website regarding their approach to stopping violence before it begins. http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/index.html

Due to their participation and presence in the event, the Soldiers of the Louisiana Branch were invited to attend other community activities in Leesville and Deridder, La.

Public Health Activity-Hood and the Louisiana Branch are subordinates units of the Public Health Region -- Central, under Regional Health Command -- Central.
