WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe's foreign liaison officer to the German state of Hesse was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit, first class category, in a ceremony at the headquarters of the German Armed Forces State Command Hesse, here, Oct. 19.

Thomas Metz, State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Justice, presented William Clements with the state's highest award during Clements' farewell ceremony after 12 years of dedicated service as the foreign liaison officer.

The order honors men and women for outstanding contributions to Hesse. The number of living recipients is limited to 2,000 for the second class and 800 for the first class order.
