Lt. Col. Joseph Greenlee relinquished command of the 405th Army Field Support Battalion Africa to Lt. Col. Crystal Hills in a ceremony June 24 at Camp Darby, Leghorn Army Depot.

Opening the ceremony was Col. Todd Bertulis, commander, 405th AFSB.

"This battalion has a remarkable history that includes many huge achievements," said Bertulis. "It's a partnership that includes U.S. Soldiers, DA [Department of the Army] civilians and our Italian hosts, providing protection and support by delivering readiness to warfighters around the globe on time, every time."

All personnel of 405th AFSB Africa and many distinguished guests of the Livorno and Pisa military and civilian communities gathered to say goodbye to the Greenlees and to welcome Hills.

"This ceremony is really much more than a change of command, it's also a celebration of the enduring partnership which links together the Italian community at Livorno and the United States Army," said Bertulis in his opening remarks. "These events help us to strengthen our mutual respect and remind us of the shared commitments we action for freedom and peace in a complex world."

Bertulis wished all the best to the Greenlee family for their future assignment and welcomed the new commander.

"Crystal, Europe has become the focus of our army in this complex environment. You are taking command of one of the most visited and strategic APS sites in our Army," said Bertulis. "You are now commanding one of the Army's truly exceptional organizations."

Greenlee talked to his personnel and thanked for the professional support during the years of his command.

Hills said she feels honored and privileged to have the opportunity to command this unit and thanked her leadership for the chance.

"Joe (Greenlee), you have expertly led this unit over the last two years, making it clear to me that I have some pretty 'big shoes' to fill," said Hills. "But rest assured: I am ready for the challenge."

Greenlee's next assignment will be at Fort Lee, Va.
