SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 6, 2016) -- An opportunity to mingle with Soldier-Olympians and receive a free personal football trading card awaits visitors Friday and Saturday at the GoArmy Zone at Sunset Station.
Four Soldiers from the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, including three Olympians, will be available at the booth for autographs, photographs and to discuss Army life, along with All-Army Sports and Soldier for Life program representatives.
Two-time Olympic rapid fire pistol shooter Sgt. 1st Class Keith Sanderson, a native of San Antonio who is qualified for Team USA to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil, will be present to meet with fans and sign autographs.
He will be joined by two-time Olympic race walker Staff Sgt. John Nunn, two-time Olympic and silver medalist bobsledder Sgt. Shauna Rohbock and WCAP boxer Spc. Rianna Rios, a Texas and Colorado Golden Gloves champion.
The Soldier-athletes are there to share a side of the Army IMCOM story the public rarely sees, and give fans a chance to reach out and touch an Olympic medal.
The U.S. Army Installation Management Command's booth will also provide an Army All-American Bowl jersey for visitors to don, then pose with a football for their 2016 MVP photo, which will be transferred onto their own trading card, complete with a badge holder and lanyard, while they wait.
On Saturday only, Army Sports rally towels will be available at the IMCOM booth while supplies last. Admission to the GoArmy Zone is free and open to the public.
The GoArmy Zone is a parking lot full of Army interactive displays and exhibits, staged as part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl festivities. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, and from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9. Kickoff for the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl is set for 12 p.m. Saturday inside the adjacent Alamodome.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl, an all-star football game played between high school seniors, pitting the East against the West, is the Army's largest public outreach event. It generates positive publicity for the Army, enhances the Army's connection with America, and demonstrates the Army's commitment to America's youth.
The U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, provides Soldier-athletes the support and training to compete in international competitions, such as the Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships and Pan American Games, while maintaining a military career. The program is managed by the Installation Management Command, headquartered here in San Antonio.
