Staff Sgt. Christopher Rogers, with the Requirements Division of the Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate, volunteered at the finish line. He said it was great to see the community involved in the Soldier Marathon, pointing out the Columbus State nursing students volunteering in the medical tent.

Melissa House competed in her first half marathon and said the weather was unexpected, the temperature at the start was 68 degrees with 100 percent humidity.

"I was expecting temperatures in the mid-50s and rain," she said. "It was awful." House was one of many who ran in honor of Soldiers killed fighting terrorism. Her time was 2:26:35.
