The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, or ARDEC, at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the Army's principal researcher, developer and sustainer of current and future armament and munitions systems.
ARDEC is one of six research, development and engineering centers in the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, which has the mission to ensure decisive overmatch for unified land operations to empower the Army, the joint warfighter and the nation.
The center plays a key part in Army transformation with its involvement in the development of the future combat systems and with continued efforts in the development of advanced weapons that exploit technologies like high-power microwaves, high-energy lasers and nanotechnology.
The organization's mission is to improve already fielded items, develop new ones, maintain a strong armament technology base in government, industry and academia and provide technical support to the soldier in the field. In this way, the Center achieves its vision of "providing America advanced armaments for peace and war."
ARDEC is also internationally acknowledged for the advancement of armaments technology and engineering innovation.
